Course Abstract

Unconscious bias can be especially difficult to recognize and manage during the interviewing process. This course helps managers understand the common types of bias that can occur during interviews and identifies specific steps to take to avoid bias in their decision-making process. By learning to use behavior-based questions, managers can avoid making hiring decisions based solely on opinions that may be biased, which will ultimately improve the diversity of their team.

  • Discusses the role of unconscious bias in making hiring decisions

  • Explains the five common types of bias often encountered during interviews

  • Describes the benefit of using behavior-based questions and how past job behavior can be used to predict future behavior

  • Uses a practice activity to identify the best interview questions to reduce the chance of bias

  • Illustrates the benefit of using a scoring system to compare assessments with other interviewers, allowing the interviewer to gain a more comprehensive evaluation of a candidate
